Where is Law?

Published on: June 8, 2019 10:58 PM

Sir: Being a responsible and law abiding-citizen, I am quite concerned about law enforcement against many heinous crimes, but we see that state is not as active as it should be save our youths from tobacco.

Youth is becoming drug addict and death rate due to smoking increasing day by day. Heart disease, lungs diseases and many types of cancers are the main outcomes of smoking but its pathetic how we are silently watching our generations dying of smoking.

Every year we see price-hike in cigarettes sale but when we actually see in streets of every city, our children can buy cigarettes on cheaper prices. Another scenario dangerous we are witnessing is the tactics being used by local tobacco companies to lure youth by offering gifts, free cigarettes and cash prizes.

I came to know that minimum settled price of a cigarette pack of 20s is around Rs 50, then how cheaper cigarettes are being sold in the market? Who is responsible?

Government should come up with strong action plan against the violators if we are really serious in protecting our youth.
